It was a privilege to have been asked to carry out this garden designed and landscape project in Poole. The late husband was an amazing craftsman himself and it would be a hard act to follow.
We had been asked to carry out the back garden project as this would have been the project they would have done together.
As the back garden was not used much, due to it being quite damp, and over shadowed by trees, it was really important that the garden was very visually attractive from the kitchen window.
The main brief when designing this back garden in Poole was to seamlessly merge the house with the garden and to change the existing lawn to a new, well-designed, functional and stylish outside area.
The garden is quite shady, so at the design stage we needed to choose the best place for various functions and features in the garden. We were asked to make the new garden work with the existing decking, so we agreed with the client to use decking for terraces and pathways throughout the new design.
The Garden and Landscape Design
We created a new decked seating area for 2-4 people, with raised board walks with round poles leading you into a nicely curved top area.
The main feature of the garden is the existing wooden sculpture which the owner wanted to re-use in the new garden. It got a centred place in the middle of the second deck area. Due to the in-situ planting being very mature we decided a Tropical Style would suit the garden.
The Planting Design
The overall style of the garden is strengthened by the planting: the decking is softened with through-growing plants, the surrounding areas are planted with Japanese Maples, bamboos and grasses.
We worked closely with the client to ensure her ideas were included within our design. The result is a well-designed, balanced garden fitting to the clients requirements.
Thanks for Andy Farrer from Apex Views we have an interactive panoramic picture of the ‘before’ garden view.
After the survey and design, we started the building process with the ground works. We levelled off the site ready to set out.
After setting out, we drilled holes into the ground so we could concrete in the vertical round posts ready to take the frame of the board walk.
We were delayed by heavy rain for a few days, only when it stopped we could continue the construction with building the decks & board walks. First step was the framing, laying the decking and cutting them for shape.
After the surface was done, we created the oak sleeper walling and built the steps. After this, we planted and finished the job in lovely sunshine.
Thanks to MBWilkes for the supply of the Oak, Pebbles and waste disposal.
The Verdict – The finished garden design and landscaped garden !!
“Thanks for all the hard work by Peter, Tom, Suzie and Blue in creating my new back garden. Nothing was too much trouble and I really appreciate their sensitivity with the project. The workmanship and attention to detail is excellent and the finished result has exceeded my expectations. Everyone who’s seen the garden are amazed by the transformation.”
